Soil report

History and evolution of the vineyard

The origin of the vineyard would date from 1039 as attested by writings found in a charter of the abbey of Cluny. Much later, in 1614, Saint-François de Salles celebrated the quality of Frangy's wine, and it is said that the canons offered him a piece of Roussette de Desingy. This wine was very much appreciated by the neighboring Switzerland, thus offering him fruitful commercial outlets. However, following an anti-alcoholism campaign led in 1756 by Swiss doctors, the winegrowers gradually lost the Swiss market. After the two World Wars, they turned to other agricultural sectors, notably dairy production. Today, we are witnessing a significant reconstruction of the vineyard. The AOC Roussette de Savoy Frangy was created in 1973.

Terroirs

The vineyard of Frangy is located in the valley of Usses and at the foot of the Vuache Mountain in the north. This valley benefits from a mild and sunny climate, with an undulating relief, crossed by a stream (the Castran) and the river Les Usses. The soil is composed of stony moraine formations rather than clay.
