Soil report

History and evolution of the vineyard

The geographical name Monthoux as well as Marestel and Jongieux date back to the time of the Duke of Savoy, Emmanuelle Philibert. Monthoux is a small village of about fifty inhabitants belonging to the commune of Saint Jean de Chevelu which is located on the shores of Lake Bourget. The AOC Roussette de Savoy Monthoux dates from 1973.

Terroirs

The Monthoux vineyard is located on the slopes of Mount Charvaz. The vines are exposed to the south and southwest on a soil of loose marl, stony and glacial deposits, which gives rise to subtle wines, all different. Even if the steep stony slopes make the work difficult, the grapes reach an exceptional ripeness thanks to the good sunshine, and until the terrible frosts of the winter of 1956, the hillside was home to almond and olive trees.
