History and evolution of the vineyard

The reputation of this geographical denomination is almost thousand years old. Indeed, the first traces of the vineyard appear in a charter dating from the 11th century signed by its creator Humbert-aux-Blanches-Mains. The latter made a donation to Saint Odilon, great abbot of the Abbey of Cluny, to produce wines intended to comfort the monks who had just founded a colony on the banks of the Lac du Bourget. This vineyard surrounded the Castle whose strategic position was privileged in the defensive system of Savoy. Almost disappeared in the last century, it is now restored and produces again its prestigious wine. The AOC exists since 1973.

Terroirs

This geographical denomination is located on the north-east side of the Chambéry cluse. It is composed of small plots of land leaning against the first slopes of Nivolet around the eponymous castle built in the 11th century. The vines face south towards the Belledonne massif. The slopes of Monterminod are planted with old vines and they produce an exceptional wine every year. Installed on a glacial moraine, the soil is composed of a clay-limestone mixture.
