The creation of the vineyard goes back to the XIth century, it is the work of the monks of Arvières who are also at the origin of the extension of the vineyard from the XIIIth century. Separated by the Rhone, the town of Seyssel was shared between the Kingdom of Piedmont and France. Despite the attachment of the kingdom to France in 1860, the town was not reunited because one part was in the Ain and the other in Haute Savoy. As early as 1927, the winegrowers decided to unite to create a legal delimitation of their vineyard and it is in 1942 that the AOC Seyssel was created.
Shaped by the Rhone, the vineyard slopes gently down to the river, those on the left banks are composed of clayey moraines and those on the right banks of stony, sandy-gravelly moraines. But the most fertile terroir of the main vineyard is "the collapse breccia of Corbonod". This 15 to 20 m thick formation is made up of angular limestone fragments coming from the Jura and transported over a short distance.
